Dentures

Oyster Bay Family Dentists takes pride in helping patients achieve their best, confidence-boosting smile. For patients with missing teeth, we offer both full and partial dentures. Dentures are designed to replace missing teeth as well as the surrounding tissues. They are custom made, removable, and significantly improve the function and appearance of your smile. You can even eat and sleep with them! Your New York dentist will ensure that your new dentures fit your mouth properly and comfortably.

Full dentures are either “conventional” or “immediate.” Conventional dentures are made after the teeth have been completely removed from the gum tissue and the healing process has had a chance to begin. After that time, this type of full denture is placed in the mouth for eight to twelve weeks. Immediate dentures are made in advance and can be positioned as soon as the teeth are removed. This is a great alternative to conventional dentures because the wearer doesn’t have to go without teeth during the healing process. Partial dentures are also removable and are used when one or more teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. This type of denture requires crowns on the teeth on either side of the space to attach artificial teeth and a cemented-in bridge. Partial dentures fill in the open spaces so that the remaining teeth cannot shift, and they appear more natural-looking than full dentures.

Other benefits of full and partial dentures include:

- Facial muscle support

- Allows patients to eat food they couldn’t eat without teeth

- Improves the ability to chew, eat, and speak

- Improves appearance and smile

- Improves self-esteem and confidence

Bridges

Bridges
Broken or missing teeth can occur for a variety of reasons. For example, trauma to the mouth can fracture a tooth or knock it out completely. In addition, gum disease can cause tooth decay and possibly lead to tooth loss. The good news is at Oyster Bay Family Dentists we offer restorative services including dental bridges.

A bridge fills in the gap where the missing tooth was. It may be supported by dental implants or natural teeth. A conventional bridge includes two crowns on both sides of the gap. The bridge is attached to the crowns, which act as an anchor and hold the bridge in place.

Usually two appointments are needed in order to have a traditional dental bridge placed. The process of getting a bridge will involve preparing the adjacent teeth for the crowns. Preparation involves removing any decay and shaping and filing the teeth. An impression of the teeth is taken so the bridge can be made. While you wait for your permanent bridge to be made, a temporary one will be placed.

Bridges are made from durable materials, such as porcelain, gold or alloy. In some cases, a combination of materials will be used. Proper maintenance of a bridge is essential in order to prevent cavities from developing underneath. Regular brushing, flossing and professional cleanings are needed.

Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Replacing missing teeth used to be only done with temporary options, like dentures or bridges. But now there is advanced dental technology available to provide a permanent tooth replacement with dental implants. Dental implants act as the tooth’s root, by having a metal post implanted right into the bone. As it heals, the bone grows around the tooth, holding it there permanently.

Over the top of the post, a crown is placed after it has healed completely. This crown is made from impressions of the patient’s other teeth so that it matches the color, size, and shape perfectly. This makes it so the dental implants are not made obvious to others. Dental implants also have excellent function, allowing the patient to eat whatever they want and not worry about it falling out.

Patients who get dental implants benefit in a number of ways. They can eat what they want, as well as brush and floss their teeth like normal. They also have higher confidence and self-esteem with a restored smile. If you want to learn more about how dental implants work, call us here at The Oyster Bay Family Dentists at 516-922-5730 to speak to Dr. Denise VeyVoda.

Denture Specialist

Denture Specialist

Dentures are often the best course of action when a patient has multiple missing teeth. It is important that anyone looking to get dentures visit a denture specialist, like our own Dr. Denise VeyVoda here at The Oyster Bay Family Dentists. Denture specialists have extensive training, education and experience in preparing dentures for patients, as well as other dental procedures. They provide the best option for patients, whether they need a partial, full dentures or implant-supported dentures. Denture specialists also construct the false teeth to be used in the dentures and help with special issues a patient is experiencing.

Here at Oyster Bay Family Dentists, we provide options for our patients who need prosthetic dental devices, like dentures. Our dentist diagnoses the problem and helps our patients find the best fit. For some patients, natural teeth may not need to be removed. Others are getting partial dentures for several missing teeth, while others choose implant-supported dentures for more stability. Not only does our denture specialist provide dentures, but other types of dental procedures, including crowns and implants. To find out more about Dr. VeyVoda and why a denture specialist is essential, give our office a call at 516-922-5730.
