Lumineers

Dental lumineers are similar to porcelain veneers with one big difference: lumineers require no preparation and are done quickly. Veneers are made of thick porcelain while lumineers are ultra thin. At The Oyster Bay Family Dentists, Drs. Robert G. West and Denise VeyVoyda can directly apply lumineers to your teeth. It’s quick, painless, and easy. Contact our office in Oyster Bay, NY, to learn more.

You don’t have to be embarrassed about your smile with lumineers. They correct issues like stained, chipped, gapped, crooked, and misshapen teeth. The entire process takes two easy visits to your Oyster Bay dentists. At the first appointment, your upper and lower teeth are used to create an impression or mold. Your customized cosmetic devices are created in a dental laboratory from the supplied impressions. Unlike veneers, you won't need drilling, shots, or temporary restoratives.

The lumineers are made between 2-3 weeks. You’ll schedule your second appointment after they’ve returned. Drs. West or VeyVoda will have you test out the lumineers. If they fit, they’ll be placed directly onto your teeth. It’s as easy as that.

There are many benefits to dental lumineers. The biggest being that it’s a timesaver. You only need two appointments for the complete process. You also save your natural teeth with lumineers. Veneers require you to trim off layers of your natural teeth. Not the case with lumineers. The bond is a lot more secure. Lumineers are placed directly onto the enamel. Lastly, it avoids creating post-procedure teeth sensitivity.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening

Zoom! Whitening is a new form of teeth whitening offered by Drs. Robert G. West and Denise VeyVoda at The Oyster Bay Family Dentists. There are two forms of Zoom! Whitening available, Zoom! In-Office Whitening System and Zoom! Take-Home Whitening System. Both of these types of whitening offer an increase in at least 6 shades of brightness to your smile.

Teeth become discolored for a variety of reasons. Naturally, as we age, our teeth can start to lose their lackluster. Foods that are high in tannic acid, like grapes and tea, can have an effect. The most infamous teeth stainers are coffee and cigarettes. For some, cutting back on these items can bring their smile back up to where they want it. For others, Zoom! Whitening is the answer.

The Zoom! In-Office System takes about an hour to complete. It utilizes a light-activated whitening gel made out of hydrogen peroxide. The gel is placed onto your teeth and the light is turned on. This causes the hydrogen peroxide to break down. Oxygen is able to enter the teeth and whiten them. The entire procedure is completely painless. Many people just relax during the whitening, either sleeping, reading, or watching TV.

The Zoom! Take-Home Whitening System consists of take-home whitening trays and gels for you to use. Over three days, you will wear the whitening gel for 4-8 hours. Our dentists will let you know how long you should be wearing them for exactly.

There is almost no difference between the two forms, besides the obvious: one takes place at the office while the other takes place at your home. The Take-Home system brightens your smile by six shades, while the In-Office system brightens about eight shades.

If you are interested in our Zoom! Teeth Whitening services or other dental work, contact The Oyster Bay Family Dentists. We are located in Oyster Bay, NY. To schedule an appointment with Drs. Robert G. West or Denise VeyVoda, visit our website or call 516-922-5730.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are an excellent way to redesign and reshape your entire mouth. Dr. Robert West and Dr. Denise VeyVoda will listen to your concerns and questions while walking you through our cosmetic service options. Veneers are thin, durable porcelain shells that cover your individual teeth. They fix and cover issues such as staining, cracked teeth, spaces, misaligned teeth, and chipped teeth.

The process of having veneers placed requires two to three separate appointments at Oyster Bay Family Dentists in Oyster Bay, NY. The first visit will be a consultation with our staff. It’s recommended that you do some research beforehand to get a better understanding of what you’re looking for. Knowing what you want to change and achieve in your smile is crucial. Veneers are highly customizable. Shape and brightness are two of the most significant choices.

Once a decision has been made, the next step is to make a mold of your teeth. After cleaning the surfaces of the teeth, the impression is taken and sent to a high standard dental laboratory. It will take between 10-14 days for your veneers to be fashioned. In the meantime, you will be provided with temporary veneers. When we receive your permanent veneers back you will come in and have them permanently bonded to your teeth.

The Oyster Bay Family Dentists is located in Oyster Bay, NY. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Robert G. West, D.D.S. or Dr. Denise VeyVoda, D.D.S. visit our website or call 516-922-5730.

Benefits of Veneers

If you have teeth that are gapped, chipped, broken, or fractured, our doctors at The Oyster Bay Family Dentists would like to tell you about veneers. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth. Veneers are an irreversible process, so it’s important to have all of your questions answered before moving forward. Allow us to explain more about this cosmetic procedure.

Veneers are used to recreate the natural look of teeth while also providing strength and resilience that resembles tooth enamel. The process of veneers takes one or two appointments. During your first visit, our doctors will discuss the new shape and look of what we are going to accomplish by placing the veneers. Afterward, an impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to our laboratory where the veneers will be created. During your second visit, your veneers will be placed and you will be able to show off your new smile.

If you have questions or concerns about veneers, please give us a call. To learn about the services we provide at the practice, visit www.oysterbaydentists.com for more information. Tips for a Nice Smile

The Oyster Bay Family Dentists offer a wide variety of cosmetic options to improve the appearance and health of your smile and with instant photo sharing taking over the internet, we always want you to be camera-ready. However, if there is any reason you can’t go the cosmetic route at this moment, we’d like to provide you with some tips that will help you show off the smile you already have!

  • Be natural – when it’s picture time, smile gently. That way, your face looks relaxed. Your mouth opens slightly, and your lower lip matches the curve of your upper teeth.

  • Check your teeth and gums – getting your smile camera-ready sometimes calls for a little behind the scenes prep work. If your pearly whites have yellowed with age, try an over-the-counter whitening product or pay us a visit! Also, don’t forget about taking care of your gums. They play a critical role in your nice smile. So keep them in good shape by brushing, flossing, and rinsing with a mouthwash every day.

  • Practice – your perfect smile may not happen overnight, but if you have a big photo event like a wedding or a graduation coming up, it doesn’t hurt to try out your grin in front of the mirror!

If you wish to enhance the appearance of your smile, please give us a call to discuss your treatment options. To learn about the services we provide at our practice, visit www.oysterbaydentists.com for more information. Invisalign

If you are unhappy with the alignment of your teeth, have spaces between your teeth, or have bite issues, orthodontic treatment is a great solution. The highly trained staff here at Oyster Bay Family Dentists has the ability to straighten your teeth quickly and effectively with Invisalign. Invisalign works just as effectively as traditional braces but you won't have to deal with the hassle of metal wires and brackets.

To have Invisalign placed on your teeth, you will first need to have impressions taken of your teeth. These images are sent to a computer screen, where they are analyzed and a 3D mock-up is created for the first set of plastic aligners. These are sent to the lab, and the patient returns in about two weeks to obtain their first set of aligners. Your doctor will ask patients to return to his office every 2-3 weeks for their next set of aligners, helping to encourage movement of their teeth to the desired location.

Compared to bracket traditional, Invisalign is a much safer option. Patients who use Invisalign often avoid damage to the gums and supporting tissues. Patients will also avoid bacteria build up that would result through traditional braces. Patients are also able to get regular dental checkups while using Invisalign. Traditional braces prevent X-rays and regular cleanings while the removable aligners used through Invisalign can be removed allowing for dentist access.

Give us a call today to set up an appointment with either Dr. Robert G. West or Dr. Denise VeyVoda to learn more about Invisalign!

Porcelain Laminates

Porcelain laminates are one of the best ways to achieve that red carpet-ready, movie star smile. As they’re able to address multiple cosmetic issues efficiently and reliably, porcelain laminates, or veneers, are regarded as a highly efficient means to a gorgeous cosmetic smile makeover. If you’re not familiar with them or you’re shopping around for a way to successfully renew your smile, here are some advantages to consider when choosing porcelain laminates:

  • Porcelain laminates can be used to address staining, chips, gaps, fractures and other cosmetic surface issues. They are a multipurpose solution in one.

  • Porcelain laminates look real because of specialized translucent porcelain that captures light like natural tooth enamel. They are totally indistinguishable from a naturally beautiful smile.

  •  Porcelain laminates retail their pearly, white beauty through staining resistance. If you enjoy red wine, tea, coffee, or use tobacco products, you can still rely upon veneers to stay bright.

  • Porcelain laminates can close gaps and eliminate the need for minor cosmetic orthodontic treatments.

  • Porcelain laminates can last a lifetime. Provided you brush, floss, stay consistent with professional exams and cleanings, and do your part to retain the structural integrity of your teeth, you shouldn’t need to replace or update your veneers as you would with bridges and crowns.

If these advantages sound favorable to you and you’re ready for the ultimate in cosmetic smile improvements, we look forward to answering your questions on porcelain laminates, veneers and Lumineers.
