Crown Lengthening

Do you feel like you have a “gummy” smile? In other words, are your teeth covered by excess gum tissue? We at Oyster Bay Family Dentists in New York are committed to helping our patients feel confident and happy with their smiles. We are excited to offer crown lengthening to bring out the fullness of your teeth!

The crown lengthening procedure involves reshaping your gum line as well as the bone around the affected tooth or teeth. This creates a more balanced gum to tooth ratio. The great thing about crown lengthening is that it can be performed on as many or as little affected teeth there are in the patient’s mouth. One tooth with excess gum tissue can be reshaped or a whole gum line can be reshaped, depending on the patient.

In addition to your smile becoming more aesthetically pleasing, crown lengthening also improves the overall health of your gums. The edge of the restoration is sturdy enough to withstand brushing and flossing to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Are you self-conscious of your gummy smile? We are available to address any questions or concerns you have about our crown lengthening procedure! Oyster Bay Family Dentists is located at 123 South Street in Oyster Bay, NY 11771. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please visit oysterbaydentists.com or call 516-922-5730.

Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery

While there are many ways to improve your smile through your teeth, we have some patients who are unhappy with their smile for a different reason. “Gummy smile” or recessed gums can often make teeth appear too short or too long. This is why here in Oyster Bay, NY, The Oyster Bay Family Dentists perform cosmetic periodontal surgery.

We know that a perfect smile is a route to great confidence. When you are self-conscious about smiling or laughing, it can really have an effect on your self-esteem. For those with excess gum tissue, uneven gum lines, or recessed gums, cosmetic periodontal surgery can help you.

Cosmetic periodontal surgery consists of gum grafts, crown lengthening, or both. When gums have shrunk due to gum disease or genes, we can take a soft tissue graft from another area of your mouth and place it where the gums are needed. They heal into a beautiful and healthy gum line. In other cases where there is too much gum tissue that makes teeth appear short, we can simply remove the excess gums and create a new gum line that shows off more of your teeth. In certain cases where the gum line is very uneven, we will use both procedures.

If you are unhappy with your gum line, you do not have to leave it the way it is. To schedule a consultation with The Oyster Bay Family Dentists of Oyster Bay, NY, call our office at (516) 922-5730 or visit our website, www.oysterbaydentists.com

Crown Lengthening in Oyster Bay, NY

When teeth have decay or damage below the gum line, the gums must be altered so that dental work can be performed to save the tooth. This procedure, called crown lengthening is a routine procedure performed here with The Oyster Bay Family Dentists in Oyster Bay, NY.

A crown lengthening procedure begins with the dentist making an incision to the gums and removing the amount necessary to reach the lower part of the tooth. The gums are then stitched into place to heal. Since gum tissue tends to shrink as it heals, if a crown is being placed on the tooth, the healing process will need to be fully completed before the crown can be placed.

For instances where a patient has excess gum tissue in their smile, crown lengthening may also be utilized for cosmetic purposes. The process is the same; the gums are cut and stitched down so that more of the tooth is showing. The gums will then heal into a natural-looking, healthy line.

If you are unhappy with your “gummy smile”, or are in need of dental work below the gum line, trust in our skilled and experienced dentists.
